He never married. In 1910 he was living with his parents.
The Star-Mirror, Moscow, Idaho, July 13, 1916: "Sunday morning at five o'clock death relieved the sufferings of Benjamin Franklin McConnell, son of ex-Governor and Mrs. William J. McConnell of this city. Patient and with an ever-abiding faith, the young man, taken from earth in the prime of life, passed through a siege of illness lasting a number of years, uncomplaining and considerate of his friends and relatives.
"'Ben' as he was familiarly known to most everyone in Moscow, knew no enemies and numbered hosts among his friends. He was vigorous in his young life and loved the outdoor life and his chosen pursuits prior to the beginning of his illness were selected from that source.
"Since the beginning of his illness he received the care of a loving mother and a devoted father, making his home with them on Third street where he died Sunday.
"The deceased was a native of Arcata, Humboldt county, Cal. He was 48 years, 9 months and 25 days of age, having been born September 14, 1867. Besides his parents he is survived by three sisters, Mrs. W.E. Borah, Mrs. Max Leudemann and Mrs. Ben E. Bush and one brother, William McConnell, jr. The funeral service was held from the family home at two o'clock Monday afternoon, Rev. Hare of the Presbyterian church officiating. Interment was made in the Moscow cemetery."
Inscription:
