Robert Miller born in New Jersey and Eleanor was born in Ireland. The 1870 census of their son Barnet Miller indicated a mother of foreign birth.
Robert Miller and Eleanor McConnell probably married in Belmont Co., Ohio around 1807. All the children put on their census they were born in Ohio except Caleb Miller, their son, who always put Pennsylvania. Possibly they crossed the Ohio River for a time and then came back. Ohio became a state in 1803 and it may have been unclear to many people which state they were born in.
Since the Robert and Eleanor were living in Belmont when William McConnell settled in Guernsey County, Ohio in 1808, they may have come a few years later and settled in Derry Twp, Guernsey Co. OH, somewhat near William's brother James McConnell. I am not 100% certain that Eleanor is the daughter of William and not James since she lived near James in 1820. Both William and James have additional descendents named Eleanor. Since I do not have proof one way or the other and perhaps other researchers did have proof that Eleanor was the daughter of William, I will assume that they were correct.
1820 Census, Derry Twp, Guernsey Co., OH.
1 M 45+, (Robert), 1 M 0-9 (Barnet).
1 F 26-45 (Eleanor), 2 F 0-9 (Isabel, Rhoda Ann). Living not far away in Derry Twp was a James McConnell who I believe was an uncle of Eleanor McConnell.
1830 Census, Wayne Twp, Tuscarawas Co., OH.
1 M 40-49 (Robert), 1 M 15-19 (Barnet), 1 M 10-14 (Caleb), 2 M 0-4 (McConnell & Robinson).
1 F 40-49 (Eleanor), 1 F 10-14 (Rhoda), 1 F 5-9 (Unknown). Isabel had married about 1828.
1840 Census, Wayne Twp, Tuscarawas Co., OH.
1 M 60-69 (Robert R.), 1 M 15-19 (Robinson), 1 M 10-14 (McConnell), 1 F 15-19 (unknown).
1 F 50-59 (Eleanor). Barnet had married in 1839, Rhoda Ann married in 1837, Caleb had left home, he married in 1841.
In 1842 Eleanor died. Robert Miller probably died soon after since he could not be found in the census while the children continued to live in Tuscarawas County, Ohio.
