John and Virginia Cromwell McConnell left Co Antrim, Ireland in the year 1803, with their three small children, Andrew, age 4, Viriginia Ann, and Ann, the youngest, on a sailing vessel. It took nine weeks to come to the United States. They went to North Carolina and on the trip Ann, the youngest, took sick and died on board the ship, the sharks followed the vessel, they had to wrap her in a sheet, tying a rock to her fee, and slipping her over-board in the ocean. There was a baby girl born on the trip. They named her Francis Ellen. In 1806 they moved to Indiana.
