Comrade Thomas McConnell
Who was born the 18th day of January A.D. 1839 in Franklin Twp, County of Warren, State of Ohio and first entered the 17th day of April 1861; at Urbana O. as a private in Compy K. Capt Jno. A. Corwin 13 Regt Ohio Vol. Inf. For 3 months; going into camp at Camp Jackson Columbus, Ohio and was mustered out with the Compy; the 21st day of August 1861 by reason of expiration of term of enlistment.
He re-enlisted in compy H. Capt Fulton, 66 Regt Ohio Vol. Inf. And was commissioned 1st Lieut of the Compy the 20th day of Nov. 1861 in Camp McArthur, near Urbana, O. Was promoted to Capt of Compy A, May 24, 1862 and to Major of the 66 Regt Ohio Vol. Inf. The 20th day of July, 1863. The first engagement in which he participated was the battle of Port Republic, Va. June 9, 1862 and was followed by participation in the battles of Cedar Mt., Va. 9th Aug. 1862.
White Sulfur Springs, Va. Aug. 24, 1862. [Loovetsville], Va. 21st day Oct. 1862; Charleston and Berryville, Va. Dec. 2nd, 1862; Chancellorsville, Va. May 1st to 4, 1863; Gettysburgh, Pa., July 1 to 3rd, 1863; Kelleys Ford, Va. July 31, 1863; Duck River Bridge, Tenn. Oct. 5 to 7, 1863; Lookout Mt. Nov. 24, 1863; Mission Ridge Nov. 25, 1863; Pea Vine Creek, Ga. Nov. 26, 1863; Ringold, Ga. Nov. 27, 1863. He was in command of the Regt at battles of Lookout Mt., Mission Ridge, Pea Vine Creek and Ringold.
Was in battle of Rocky Face Ridge and Dug Gap, May 8 to 11, 1864; at battle of Resaca, Ga. May 13 to 16, 1864; Dallas, Ga., May 25 to 27, 1864; New Hope Church, Ga. May 28, 1864; Pumpkin Vine Vine Creek, Ga., June 4, 1864; Pine Mt., Ga. June 14, 1864; Pine Knob, June 19, 1864; Kulps Farm, June 22, 1864; Kennisaw Mt., Ga. June 27, 1864, Marietta, Ga. July 3rd, 1864, Chattahoucha River, Ga. July 6 to 10, 1864, Siege of Atlanta, Ga. July 28 to Sept. 2, 1864.
He was wounded in engagement at Chancellorsville, Va. May 3rd, 1864 in the left elbow by minnie ball and slightly wounded at New Hope Church, Ga. 28th of May 1864, was never in hospital but had care in home of friends in sickness. Was never a prisoner. After beginning of Siege of Atlanta he was an invalid until resignation in November 1864, when his surgeon gave him a certificate of disability, and he returned home.
We certify that Comrade Thomas McConnell Joined W.A. Brand Post No. 98 Department of Ohio the 8th day of July, 1881, Held offices of commander of Post for two terms. Was member of the council of Administration two terms and has been Aid de Camp on both Dept and Natl Staff

Whereas: it has seemed good and wise to our Great Commander to remove from our midst on Sept. 30 1901 by death our beloved Comrade Thomas McConnell and
Whereas it becomes our duty to submit to the over ruling Providence of our Heavenly Father, therefore be it
Resolved: That we appreciate his services to his country during the entire war of the Rebellion; his loyalty to his Post- he being one of the charter members of the Post No. 98 department of Ohio.- and that we will ever cherish this memory as a comrade of this Post.
Resolved: That a copy of these resolutions be sent the widow and family of our late Comrade and that these resolutions be spread upon the minutes of this Post.
