Buried in Taggart cemetery, Belmont County, OH. The stone says aged 76 years. The Find-a-grave website says the tombstone says Feb 2, 1831. Another source had the date as Mar 1, 1834. The 1 at the end looks like a 4 to me in the photo, but I will assume the people at Find-a-grave who can see it know better.

[23093] Per 1880 census, both of his parents were from PA. He is very likely a close relative of Johann "John" McConnell. But I do not know the exact relation- ship.

Wm. McConnell
William McConnell died Dec. 13, 1917, at Pinckneyville, aged 78 years, 6 months and 4 days. He was born in Philadelphia and with his father, mother and sister, came to Washington county, Illinois, afterward removing to Perry county, where he has spent a long and useful life, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. In the hour of his country's call, he enlisted in August, 1861, in Capt. A.C. Todd's Company, Company F, 10th Missouri, and served three years. At the battle of Jackson, Mississippi, he was wounded, taken prisoner and sent to Libby Prison, but was later exchanged.
He was a faithful member of the U.P. church of Swanwick where he will be missed. He leaves to mourn his loss one brother, Watson McConnel [sic] of Claremont, California, five nephews and sixteen nieces, also a host of friends.
Funeral services were held on Sabbath, Dec. 16, at 12 o'clock in the U.P. church at Oakdale and were conducted by Rev. W.O. Ferguson. A large number of friends and neighbors were present to pay their last respects to the departed.
His soldier comrades acted as pallbearers. Interment was made in the Oakdale cemetery.
He moved to Florida per his brother's obituary.
