Be it remembered that on this day the 20" day of October in the year 1843...instrument purporting to be the last will and testament of Sampson McConnell deceased was produced to me in ...office and the same was duly proven by the oaths of John C. Matthews and John Hazelrigg Jr. the subscribing witnesses thereto and there upon MARY McConnell, ARCHIBALD McCONNEL(sp.) the Executrix and Executor therein named made application letters testamentary with the will annexed on the estate of said deceased...is granted in due form of law. And said MARY McConnell and ARCHIBALD McConnell together with NATHANIEL J. McConnell entered into and acknowledged their bond in the penal sum of ei.. hundred dollars conditioned as required by law and the said Executrix and Executor was duly sworn. Given under my hand and seal the day and year first above written

To all Christian people, I, Sampson McConnell of Decatur County, Marion township on the seventh of September eighteen hundred and forty three do bequeath unto my daughter SARAH Newman (1) for natural love and affection one dollar and to my son ARCHIBALD H. McConnell (2) and my daughter MARY ANN POTTER (4) and my son Sampson McConnell (6) and my daughter NANCY PARKER (5) and my son GEORGE W. McConnell (7) and my daughter BETSY J. McConnell (8) and to my son John J. McConnell (9) an equal distribution of all my personal property and to my daughter PATSEY HILLIS (3), one dollar. I Sampson McConnell do bequeath unto my wife, MARY McConnell for love and affection all the above named personal property during her widowhood. I Sampson McConnell do also bequeath unto my wife, MARY McConnell all my real estate containing one hundred and sixty acres more or less during her widowhood and at her decease to my son JOHN J. McConnell (9) it being the land where I, Sampson McConnell lived and died; It being north east quarter section 25, township of range 9, in the district of Brookville and State of Indiana containing one hundred and sixty acres more or less. I Sampson McConnell do also bequeath unto my son GEORGE W.McConnell (7) all that certain tract or parcel of land, lying and being in the state of Indiana County of Decatur it being the south east quarter section 25 north half of south quarter section containing eighty acres be the same more or less in town ten of range 9 in district of Brookville and State of Indiana containing eighty acres more or less the land lying north of Sampson McConnell.
I, SAMPSON McConnell do also bequeath unto my daughter BETSY JANE McConnell (8) all that tract or parcel of land lying and being in Decatur County, State of Indiana towit: The northwest quarter of section 25, in township ten range 9 in the district of Brookville and State of Indiana it being the west-half of said quarter section containing 80 acres more or less east of WILLIAM Newman. I, Sampson McConnell being in my right reason and mind have set my hand and fixed my seal this seventh day of September eighteen hundred and forty three.

Matthews and John Hazelrigg Jr. the subcribing witnesses to the foregoing instrument who being by me duly sworn deposeth and saith that they were present and saw the said Sampson McConnell sign and seal the foregoing as his last will and testament that they signed their names to the will and codicil thereto as witnesses in the presence of the said testator and at request and that at the time of the execution thereof they believe the said testator was of sound mind and disposing memory and that said testor declared the same to be his last will and testament and further saith not. Given under my hand this day and year above written.
