Fannie lived much of her life in Reno, Nevada. Her husband was not especially
successful and he was fond of drinking. Fannie earned money by giving piano
lessons and used the money to buy a farm outside of Reno. Eventually the farm
became very valuable property and Fannie became wealthy by selling the land for
very large, luxurious homes. There are two streets in Reno, one named "Brown"
and the other named "Patrick." Fannie's farmhouse was located at the point
where the two streets cross. Fannie had a large, luxurious house and loved to
show off her wealth by riding around in a limousine and by using fur coats.
Fannie was active in politics and is said to have given the seconding speech
for William Jennings Bryant. She was also active in getting the Women's vote
and in women's politics. She also was active in getting legislation to assure
that Lake Tahoe stayed at its present height. At the far end of Lake Tahoe
is a bridge and dam and that is called "Fannie's Bridge" after Fannie Brown
Patrick.
In the 1930 census she was living alone, with a net worth of $15,000. She was
listed under the name Fannie B. Patrick. The census showed her as age 65,
born in Iowa.
