From Randy McConnell
Archibald appeared in Rowan records by December 1761 when he bought land along Walnut Branch. He received a 1783 state land grant of 400 acres on Little Dutchman's Creek. He later was named a constable in the area, but was replaced in 1787.
From Dan Woodruff, a descendant:
Archbald sold some of his land in Rowan County on 3 August 1784. The last record found on Archibald, in North Carolina was in the court minutes of Iredell County when a deed from him was proven on 25 March 1790. The transaction was dated 21 December 1789 and was for 540 acres. It is believed that he left for Kentucky at this time.
Early in 1790 Archibald left the county for KY, where Archibald is listed in Bourbon Co. in 1791 along with son Samuel McConnell. Archibald's descendants later moved to Clark Co., KY and then to Maury and Marshall Cos., TN. There they intermingled with their cousins from NC, and his son Archibald Jr. married a descendant of Christopher Houston from Iredell Co.
The source for his date of death is a deed dated 4 October 1798, for 200 acres on Green Creek in Bourbon Co., KY which states; "...to hold for heirs of Archibald McConnell dec'd."
