[31768] Capt. Robert Boyd: Born of Scottish Parents about 1705. Married Elizabeth? Settled in the Cumberland Valley of PA about 1737 - now Franklin County. According to Egle's Notes and Queries the Capt. was educated and a gentleman. His first son was born in Scotland in the late 1720's - then Robert moved the family to Ireland for a short period of time before migrating to PA. Son John joined the family in PA later. Robert and son John were both in the militia to defend against Indian raids. Robert was commissioned as a Captain in the Third Battalion of the Provincial Forces, under Col. Hugh Mercer. Commission dated May 1, 1758. He participated in the Forbes' Expedition during the French and Indian War. Robert died in 1761 without a will and so a Cumberland County Court named son John as Administrator.
This family was active in the Rocky Springs Presbyterian Church outside Chambersburg PA.
Capt.Robert Boyd had 8 surviving children:
