! CHARLES G REED
!The unexpected death of another of the area's fine men has shocked and
saddened the community. Charles G. Reed, a lifetime resident, died the night
of August 15 at the Hadley Hospital following a heart attack he had suffered
earlier in the day while working at the fairgrounds. He was 69 years of age.
!Chuck, as he was known to all, was born February 25, 1914, at Stockton, the
son of John and Ella May (Chamberlain) Reed, and spent his life farming east of
Stockton, but had retired from most active work a few years ago. He was
married to Lucille Bell on July 10, 1938 at Stockton. He was active in the
affairs of his community, had served many years as a member of the Rooks County
Fair Board and was superintendent of the sheep division. He was a graduate of
the Stockton High School with the class of 1933, a member of the Christian
Church, the Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star, and the Odd Fellows and Rebekahs.
!He is survived by his wife Lucille, of the home; three daughters, Helen Murphy
Bend, Ore.; Cella Banks, St Paul, Minn., and Roberta Johnson, Palm Bay, Fla.;
seven sisters, Evelyn Drotts, Phillipsburg, Cella Johnston, and Ruth Hogle, of
Fortuna, CA., Esther Sell, Stockton, Alma Bilderback, Atchison, Wilma McFadden,
Great Bend and Elsie May Tocco, Riviera, AZ.; one brother, Robert, Bismark, ND,
ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
!The services were conducted by Pastor Harold Brown, Friday morning at the Main
Street Christian Church and burial was in the Stockton Cemetery with a Masonic
graveside service. The family suggests memorials to the Rooks County Free Fair
or the Christian Church.
