Ransom Joseph Barber was born in 1826 Union Co., IL son of Joseph Barber and Elizabeth Rothrock (ref. Mormon Ch. Record AFN:QDPZ-M1). Birth date Aug. 7, 1825 Union Co., IL (ref. LDS IGI Record File # 1985671)
Ransom Joseph Barber re-located from Union Co., IL to Montgomery Co., AR, he was the postmaster of the first post office in Mount Ida (which is on the present day highway 27 in Montgomery Co., AR on what is known as the George Irons place). He moved to Cooper Co., TX during the Civil War and he was killed by "bush-whackers" between Y City and Fort Smith near Waldron, Scott Co., AR. Ransom J. Barber age 22 married Cintha McConnell age 17 dau. of Robert McConnell and Sarah on August 31, 1847 at Sulphur Springs Twp., Montgomery Co., AR (Ref. marriage Book Montgomery Co., AR page 203 and History of Montgomery Co., AR, Gen. Sec. Pine Bluff Campus Library).
