Image 247 of in the Orphans' Court dockets 1751-1804, vol. 1-3 of the Cumberland County, Pennsylvania Probate Records. About 1774.
"Came into Court Elizabeth Torrence late widow of William McConnell late of Peters Twp deceased and prayed of the court to appoint William Nesbit of Antrim Township and James McConnell of Letterkenny Twp or any other two proper persons Guardians of the Persons and Estates of Mary McConnell and William McConnell Orphan Children of the aforesaid William McConnell dec'd (the being under the age of fourteen years) During their Minority."
In 1814 Mary McConnell requested that Alexander Irwin, a son-in-law of William, be made her guardian.
Allegheny County, PA Orphans Court Dockets, Volume 1, 1789-1820. Image 119, page 198, no 822. April 14, 1814
"Mary McConnell Daughter of James McConnell late of Franklin Co., dec'd presented her petition stating that she was a minor above the age of fourteen years and had no guardian to take care of her person and estate and praying leave to make choice of a Jit person as her guardian, the prayer of the petition was granted and Alexander Irwin having been chosen by the petitioner is appointed by the Courts, guardian of the person and estate of said petitioner during her minority."
It is likely that William McConnell was her guardian prior to Mary McConnell's request to make Alexander Irwin her guardian. William McConnell was listed 10 lines above Alexander Irwin in the 1810 census.
1810 Census, Elizabeth Twp, Allegheny Co., PA
1 M 26-44 (William), 1 M 10-15 (John). Note: This John McConnell was born 1797. he moved to Dearborn Co., IN. Family members included the names William, Rosannah and James Irwin (the name of William's son-in-law and the father of Alexander Irwin).
1 F 45+ (Rosanna's mother/Alexander McConnell's wife?), 1 F 26-44 (Rosanna), 2 F 16-25 (Elizabeth, Margaret). Note: Elizabeth would be the oldest, she was the first born of William in 1791. She was 19 in 1810.
6 neighbors, from close to far, moving up: William Clemmens, Stephen Warner, Charles Walker, Samuel Walker, Robert Miller, Isaiah Brown.
6 neighbors, from close to far, moving down: James Stinson, Zeri Haydon (note: witnessed will), James Curren, James Wilson, Samuel Rice, Zachias Wilson.
The only neighbors in common for 1810 and 1820 were William Clemmonns and Zeri Haydon.
1820 Census, Elizabeth Twp, Allegheny Co., PA Listed immediately above William Clemmons/Clemence. William McConnell, Jr. is listed immediately after William Clemmons, Sr. It is quite likely that William McConnell, Jr. married the daughter of William Clemmons.
1 M 45+ (William, Sr.), 1 M 16-25 (John)
1 F 45+ (Rosannah). The two daughers are gone, either working elsewhere or married. Rosanna's mother is gone.
6 neighbors, from close to far, moving up: Stephen Warner, Lloyd Thompson, John Smith, William Gibson, Joseph Vankirk (witnessed will), Elisha Pearce (executor of will).

To son William McConnell, $300, half to be paid in 3 years, remainder in 5 years.
To my daughter Margaret McLaughlin, $100 to be paid 1 year after decease.
To my son John McConnell, the plantation I now live on. $700 to be paid to others and funeral expenses to be paid, 1/3 of furniture.
