On October 7, 1779 John McConnell and Elizabeth Young sold their land in Cumberland County to Elizabeth's brothers. He moved to Fayette Co., KY on June 4, 1780. In 1785 John was a member of the Mt. Zion Church. His name appears in a 1788 Fayette Co. tax list and in 1791. He was a Lieutenant in the "Corn Stalk" Militia on 9 Aug 1792. In 1795 and 1798 he was guardian for the children of his deceased brother James. On 16 Sep 1799 he sold 200 acres and departed from Kentucky.
In the 1820 census he and his wife appear to be in the household of his son James McConnell.
