1747/8 - Chester Co, PA Tax List, West Nantmeal Twp, Alexander Walker, Francis McConnell, William Mackey (and others who were later found in the Fannettsburg Presbyterian Church, Franklin Co, PA, records.)
Francis McConnell is listed in the book:
Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, Quarter Session Dockets, 1750-1785 By Pennsylvania. Court of Quarter Sessions (Cumberland County), Diane E. Greene
http://books.google.com/books?id=t_jlgSzn0n4C&source=gbs_navlinks_s page 42
He is appointed Constable of Fannet Twp 25-Mar-1762 in a private court session held at Carlisle, before James Galbraith and his associated justices.
On March 25, 1762, the court made the following appointments: Fannet, Francis McConnell constable; "Aair,""William Haynes constable; Lack, Ralph Starret constable, William Andersona and John McMehan supervisors; Fermanagh, William White constable. Anderson and White were killed by the Indians the next year, on the 10th of July.
METAL Township - 1795.
The east boundary line of this township is Kittatinny Mountain and the west boundary Tuscarora Mountain. Its territory was taken from the south end of Fannett township. Its general topography is
mountainous, but the narrow valley running its entire length has some excellent soil. Its great wealth lies in the minerals it contains. It was to express this in a manner that the name "Metal " was
given it. The early settlers were Scotch-Irish, and were strong in the Calvinistic faith. Among the earliest land purchasers are the following:
Francis McConnell, September 15, 1766. Neighbors: James Elliott, Alexander McConnell.
[Note: the Alexander McConnell listed above was probably Francis McConnell's son, b. about 1740, so he would have been about 20 years old.]
FAMILY BIBLE: Family Bible of Alexander Walker (1714-1775). Published at Edinburgh by Adrian Watkins, "His Majesty's Printer" MDCCLII (1752), in possession of Donald Walker of Fannettsburg, PA, 1989: "First church built in Metal township, Franklin Co. was in 1770 - The second Presbyterian church built 1794 - The third Pres. Church built 1832. The first person buried in the graveyard of the Lower Church Path Valley was Francis McConnell who was buried 25 day of December 1769. Alexander Walker and Family arrived in Path Valley from Chester County on the 3 day of May 1761."
The letters of administration read:
"Be it remembered that on the twentieth Day of May 1772 Letters of Administration were granted to Isabel McConnell & John McConnell of the Goods & Chattel to Rights & Credits which were of the Estate of Francis McConnell Deceased Inventory & Acc't to be exhibited at the Registers office in Carlisle in theTime appointed by Law.
