In 1860 they lived in Charlotte, Mecklenberg Co., North Carolina with their sons Robert McConnell, age 21, and John McConnell, age 17.
In the 1880 census it was indicated he was a blind man. His profession was still that of carpenter. He lived with his wife Martha, his son, John Jr., and four grandchildren in Charlotte, Mecklenberg Co., NC.

[21111] There was Lillie H. McConnell, age 13 living with them. She may or may not be the daughter of Richard McConnell. The reason I think she may not be is it shows here father born in Ireland and Richard McConnell was born in PA. However, since every space has Ireland under the father, the record may not have been clear or the person writing down the informaiton just put the same under father and mother without being careful. Richard was living next door to Levi McConnell.
