Daniel McConnell was a native of Maryland who came to Washington County as a young man, and followed blacksmithing for a considerable period, afterward purchasing and operating a farm of 200 acres. He had four sons and six daughters.
Dec 20, 1794, Daniel McConnell of Hanover Twp took an oath with respect to the whiskey rebellion.

McCONNELL, John M. - Beardstown Central, Sept. 7, 1871
Died at his residence Sun. the 3rd, John M. McConnell. He lived in Beardstown, 25 years and had been in the War of 1812. He had been married 54 years. He leaves his widow and five children, with four children deceased. He was a member of the Methodist Church. He was born in PA, raised in KY, and came to Pike county, IL in 1831, then to Cass county in 1846. Masonic rites were held at his funeral.
Note: his census records indicate he was born in Kentucky.
