Lived in Missouri in 1880. Enlisted in 42nd regiment, company C, September 25, 1861. Served three years under T.C. Bushnell and was in the fight at Vicksburg and various other engagements. Was captured by the enemy at Champion Hill and was kept in custody for about three weeks, when he was paroled. He was exchanged about three months later, when he again joined the army. This from "History of Ashland Co.", 1880, p. 335. In the 1880 census, Butler, Bates Co., father from PA, mother from OH.
Enlisted as a Private on 10 September 1861 at the age of 24.
Enlisted in Company C, 42nd Infantry Regiment Ohio on 2 Oct 1861.
Mustered Out Company C, 42nd Infantry Regiment Ohio on 30 Sep 1864.
