When James and Melinda had the first five children, they came to Burlington, Iowa on a flat boat. They brougnt a two wheeled cart. They had a gun and a few personal belongings. They pulled and pushed the cart to east of what later was Grand River, Richland Township. Decatur County, Iowa. They built a one room cabin. They established a home later-west if Westerville, Iowa. Richland Township (Westerville north of Grand River). James and Melinda are buried in a small cemetry north side of east-west road west of Westerville just a few miles off road in field-nice monument.
