John McKnight did not leave a will. However, Jane McKnight mentions her dower, which is believed to be land she inherited from John McKnight in Ross Twp, Greene County, OH when he died in Greene County, Ohio in 1812 since she mentions her dower was in the possession James Buick, John McConnell and Zacheus McConnell in her will.
1830 Census, Ross Twp, Greene Co., OH
F 45+ (Jane), 1 F 15-19 (Eliza).
1 M 15-20 (Robert) 2 M 10-15 (John M, Zaccheus).
In her will written on May 20, 1837, in Greene County, Ohio Will Book I, page 287:
She stated at the beginning of her will that her dower (inheritance) was in the hands of James Buick (husband of Mary), John and Zaccheus. With the reference to James Buick, she refers to her daughter Mary.
To my daughter Eliza, $70.
To my son John $150.
To my son Zacheus, $100.
To my son David, $100.
My son Robert holds a bill of sale for furniture and appurtenances. This will be collected by John and Zaccheus, the executors.
She makes no reference to her daughter Jane L. who is said to have married William Ellis. So I believe Jane L. had died by 1837. Jane could not be found married to a William Ellis in any census.
Executors are: Zacheus McConnell and John McConnell.
Witnesses: John Barber, Sarah Barber.
Security bonds of $1,600 were provided by Samuel McConnell and John Dodd.
Andrew Wright, Thomas Gibson and John Barber were appointed as appraisers.
