In the 1920 census they had no children and they were taking care of his mother, age 90, living in Cold Spring Twp, Shelby Co., IL. They lived immediately next door to John Lowe and his sister, Elizabeth "Lizzie" (McConnell) Lowe.

Three barrels of mash was the result of a raid made by the Anti-Horse Thief Association of Cold Spring Township Thursday night, when they searched the home of Charles McConnell. No still was discovered but the three barrels of mash were found and confiscated. McConnell was arrested and brought to Shelbyville Friday morning, and arraigned before the Justice of the Peace J.C. Millard. He waived his preliminary hearing and was bound to the November term of the grand jury. His bond of $500 was furnished by George McConnell and Tom McConnell of Cold Spring Township.
There was a Charles McConnell who was in the state prison, but I'm not sure if this was the same Charles McConnell or not.
