Thomas Elder, son of David Elder, born 1782, in Lancaster county, Pennsylvania, died April 25, 1855, on the old Elder farm in Derry township, buried at New Alexandria, Pennsylvania. He married Mary Mc Connell, born August 24, 1792, in Lancaster county, died October 3, 1881, in her ninetieth year, on the old Elder farm, buried at New Alexandria. She was a daughter of David and Martha (Whiteside) McConnell, of Lancaster county, who with their children crossed the mountains in a covered wagon in the year 1800 and settled in Salem township. Her brother Daniel McConnell, born 1794, was the grandfather of Judge A. D. McConnell, of Westmoreland county, whose father was the late Kirk McConnell, of Salem township. Thomas and Mary (McConnell) Elder had children: Violet Whiteside, born March 13, 1813, died November 9, 1831, Martha Maria, born September 27, 1815, died September 18, 1820; Robert Anderson, born September 22, 1817, died October 16, 1850; Harriet Eliza, born December 27, 1820, died September 12, 1890; David, born September 4, 1823, died January 30, 1832; Thomas McConnell, born March 24, 1826; Mary, born November 6, 1828, died November 8, 1828; James Marshall, born November 14, 1829, died January 4, 1857; John Morrison, born December 22, 1832; William Porter, born April 12, 1835, died March 4, 1849.
Robert Anderson Elder, eldest son of Thomas and Mary (McConnell) Elder, born September 22, 1817, died October 16, 1850, buried at New Alexandria.
