Query by Jack MacConnell: Boucher and Jordan in their Westmoreland County History of 1906 mention (vol. 1, p. 165) a John McConnell, of Franklin Township; he died 23 May, 1832, 78 years old and fought in the Rev. War in Captain Eli Myer's company, Eighth Pennsylvania Reg.
John McConnell was a private of Huffnagel's Company from 8/28/1776 to August 1779. His wife received a pension of $40 per month after his death.

The regiment first did duty at Kittanning and in the autumn was marched to New Jersey. He was in the battle of Bound Brook (Apr 13, 1777), and a number of skirmishes in that locality.? About a year and a half later the regiment returned to the western country to operate against the Indians.? It marched by way of Pittsburgh to Beaver Creek, and assisted in building Fort McIntosh.? It then joined in the campaign under General McIntosh against the Indians on the Tuscaroras, and later in the campaign against the Muncy Indians under command of Colonel Broadhead.? After three years service Mr. McConnell was discharged at Pittsburgh by Colonel Bayard, who then commanded the regiment
