November 23, 1825. John McConnell, on oath, declares that he enlisted as a private in a company then commanded by Capt. Eli Myers, in the 8th Pa Regiment, then commanded by Col. Enos McCoy, of the Penn's Line, in June 1776, as near as he can recollect, for three years; that he first did duty in said company and regiment at Kitanning, in said county of Westmoreland, and in the succeeding fall was marched to New Jersey; that he was in the battle of Bound Brook and several skirmishes in the neighborhood; that the regiment was continued with the main army for about one and a half years as near as he can recollect, after which it was marched back to the western country to defend against the Indians; that the regiment was marched by was of Pittsburgh to Beaver Creek; that he assisted to build Fort McIntosh, that he was in the campaign carried on under General McIntosh against the Indians on the Tuscaroras and aftwerwards on the campaign against the Munsy Indians, which was commanded by Colonel Broadhead; and he faithfully served three years, the term for which he enlisted, and was honorably discharged by Col. Bayard, who then commanded the regiment.
Aged 70; signed in English; Franklin tp; 2 sons and 3 daughters.

Query by Jack MacConnell: Boucher and Jordan in their Westmoreland County History of 1906 mention (vol. 1, p. 165) a John McConnell, of Franklin Township; he died 23 May, 1832, 78 years old and fought in the Rev. War in Captain Eli Myer's company, Eighth Pennsylvania Reg.

John McConnell was a private of Huffnagel's Company from 8/28/1776 to August 1779. His wife received a pension of $40 per month after his death.

John McConnel, of Franklin township, died May 25, 1832, in the 78th year of his age.? He enlisted in Captain Eli Myers? company, Eight Pennsylvania Regiment, in June, 1776.? The regiment first did duty at Kittanning and in the autumn was marched to New Jersey. He was in the battle of Bound Brook (Apr 13, 1777), and a number of skirmishes in that locality.? About a year and a half later the regiment returned to the western country to operate against the Indians.? It marched by way of Pittsburgh to Beaver Creek, and assisted in building Fort McIntosh.? It then joined in the campaign under General McIntosh against the Indians on the Tuscaroras, and later in the campaign against the Muncy Indians under command of Colonel Broadhead.? After three years service Mr. McConnell was discharged at Pittsburgh by Colonel Bayard, who then commanded the regiment
