Bertha Shipley was born January 16, 1880 in Marion (Center Township), Marion County, Kansas. Her father was a stone mason and the family had moved to Kansas around 1875 to 1878 from Elkhart County, Indiana.
After Earl Franklin died, Bertha married Harry Lightcap. According to the 1930 census record in Chicago, Cook County, IL, they were renting and had
been married for 5 years. Their son was born in Missouri, so they must have just recently moved to Chicago from Missouri.
According to her death certificate, Harry was 60 years old at the time of her death on July 4, 1948. She had one daughter with Harry Lightcap. Bertha died while visiting Ruth Franklin at 1110 Lincoln Park Drive, Decatur, IL. Bertha's last place of residence was 2755 W. Jackson Blvd., Chicago, IL. She probably died of a heart
attack (coronary occlusion). She was buried in the Fairlawn Cemetary on July 6, 1948 in Decatur, Macon County, Illinois.
Harry put on the 1930 census that his father was born in the Irish free state which is probably Ireland.
