Ruth Franklin was born in Joliet, Will County, Illinois. For much of her
childhood her father did not live with her, possibly because as a cook/
laborer, he found it difficult to support a family.
In 1910 she appears to have been a student in a boarding school in St.
Louis, Missouri.
By 1920 Ruth lived with her parents on Warne Avenue, St. Louis, Missouri.
She went to study at the University of Illinois and graduated with a Masters
degree in psychology. She worked her way through college and she earned very
high grades.
Ruth was extremely well organized and she kept her house very clean. She was
a difficult person for most who knew her. She died when she refused to eat
at the hospital where she spent her last days.
Her children and many grandchildren were present at the services held
at the Congregational Church given by Reverend Peter Stevens. She was buried
in Decatur, Illinois.
