[19676] James Smith McConnell former resident of Springfield, died at 5:35 Tuesday morning at his residence in Chicago of Apoplexy, according to word received last night. Funeral Services will be held at at Oak Ridge Cemetery in the Chapel. Mr. McConnell is survived by his son James S. McConnell, Jr. and daughter Mrs. Lavinia Pike Donaldson. James Smith McConnell a former Springfield lawyer was buried in Oak Ridge Cemetery this afternoon, following services at Oak Ridge Cemetery. Mr. McConnell was a practicing attorney here for many years, later moving to Chicago. He was an intimate friend of Lincoln, Grant, Logan and Oglesby, and former Senator Shelby M Cullom. He was brother in law to U.S. Minister Conger, and cousin of Judge Samuel P. McConnell of Chicago. Illinois State Journal, 06-24-1922.
