[63658] Her birthdate in 1900 was shown as March 1814. All the previous census records showed she was born in 1820. 1820 seems more reasonable based on the ages of children. She had seven children, all living in 1900.

Terry Cowan has done extensive research on the Cowan surname and through estate papers of the Cowans, this led to research on Captain John McConnell and his family. Terry Cowan has published a book "A Cowan History, The Family of David Cowan (1665-c.1730) of the Pequea Valley, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania: His Antecedents and Descendants." There is information in this book about Captain John McConnell and his descendants. Anyone who is interested, can contact Terry Cowan at tcowan@jcowaninc.com or they can send a check for $40 to cover book and postage to: Terry Cowan, 603 Circle Drive, Bullard, TX 75757
A note from Terry Cowan on June 17, 2012:
"John McConnell, son of John McConnell and Mary Dawson, died in 1854 in Warrick County, IN. I have 2 things that help clear this up.
First, go to www.findagrave.com at http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gsr&GScid=2243737
Then, there is this from the Jane Dawson estate papers (will written in 1836, codicil in 1837, proved 1846, administered 1860):
"Mary McConnell left five children all living at the death of Jane Dawson [1846], viz: Rosanna Lowther of Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, Elizabeth wife of David Robison of Wayne County, Ohio, David McConnell of Tuscarawas County, Ohio, Robert Robison of Hancock County, Ohio, John McConnell of Warrick County, Indiana. John McConnell died in February 1854 and before the death of Lethie Berry [who had life estate in Jane Dawson property], leaving a widow, Jane McConnell, who is still living and eight children, viz: Minerva, wife of Charles Ferguson, Robert McConnell, Louvida, wife of William C. Smith, Isabella H. wife of James B. S. Mone, Anne E. wife of James Brown, Helen McConnell and James McConnell, the last two of whom are minors having for their guardian, Jane McConnell all residing in Warrick County, Indiana and John D. McConnell residing in Mississippi."
I had not looked at the Jane Dawson papers for a while, and so this refreshed my memory. This should clear up any confusion as to which John McConnell was the son of John McConnell (1746-1817) and Mary Dawson (c.1764-1845.) He was the one who settled in Warrick County, IN and died there in 1854. The 1850 census and records from Stand-Pipe (McConnell) Cemetery confirm this.
You mentioned Tuscarawas County, OH-the only McConnells of this line there appear to be David (1792-after 1870) who was there as early as 1831, and his brother Robert (1790-after1870) who was living with him in 1870. David did not appear to have been married."
