Per an on-line query by a descendant, John McConnell was born 1790 in Killarney, Ireland. He came to the U.S. before 1820 by way of Baltimore. He had a store in Canton, Stark Co., OH and married Jerusha/Jerusia Reed. She was born in 1795 in Pennsylvania. He parents are supposed to have owned a hotel in Canton, Ohio.
IPer Robert M. Wilbanks IV at e-mail rmwiv@getnet.com, John McConnell first lived at Stark County, Ohio from 1820 to 1824, while also owning land at East Union Township in Wayne County, where he eventually settled and raised his
family. He died there in 1855. His wife was born in Pennsylvania in 1795 and she died in Wayne County in 1877.

James, 19, and Jane McConnell, age 17. They are not listed in age order (George came before them). It is possible that James McConnell is a son of a brother of John McConnell. He doesn't match the 2 males 0-5 in 1840. He would have been 5-10. But it is possible he is a son of John McConnell."Jno
Per his will written April 3, 1855
1. He gave his farm to his son George W. McConnell, about 62 acres of land.
2. He mentions his wife Jerussa, to live on land.
3. He gave $50 each to his four daughters: Ann Eliza, married to Thomas Line, Rachel married to Jacob Franks, Melinda married to Aaron Franks, Jane married to Christopher Bay.
Witnesses were: Andrew Melbourn and John C. Langell. Will proved April 21, 1855.
In the 1860 census at East Union Township, p. 49, we see Jerusha (Reed)
McConnell living with her son George McConnell, age 18, who was a farmer.
