William is my GG Grandfather. My grandfather, Oatey B. Tinsley, was told when he was young, by his mother, Mary Willie McConnell, that her father was a stone mason, by trade. Before he died, he made his own tombstone. In 2004, I visited the Cemetery. The stone is still in good shape after 122 years ! On the side is a circle. In this circle is a SHAMROCK. William was proud of his " Irish ".
Logan County, KY marriage Records show William McConnell to Lucy A. Reed on January 16, 1871.
The 1880 Census of Clay, Logan County. KY, shows William McConnell, age 50, born in Ireland, Stone Mason.
Update, May 2006:
I had just found where Lucy McConnell filed for William's Civil War Pension.
She listed he served in the Union Army.
