Son Samuel put both parents born in PA in the 1880 census. This is correct because there was an 1810 census for Samuel McConnell with his four male children in Cross Creek, Washington Co., PA. Of course most of his life Charles McConnell lived in Ohio and he was born just across the river.
On October 1, 1840 a Charles McConnell purchased 360 acres at the Lima land office in Richland/Mercer County, OH.

In the 1850 census, Charles McConnell was counted twice. There was a Charles McConnell counted in the Blumenthal Hotel in Wayne Twp, Jefferson County Ohio, listed as a trader. He was alone at the time. It shows his birthdate as 1805 in Ohio, which is close to the one I have for this Charles McConnell. It makes sense he would have family and friends in Jefferson County, Ohio, since that is where he came from. This census shows he had $2500 in assets. The 1850 census record in Weller Twp, Richland Co., Ohio does not show either assets or occupation. It shows he was born in Ohio in 1803. There were not many people in Ohio at those early dates, so it is probably the same person.
