Residents of Drumore Township in 1756: The following named persons living in the back settlements fled from the Indians, and probably crossed the Susquehanna at McCall's Ferry: Arthur McConnell, Eliza Wilson, William Patterson, William Ewing, Lowdywick Leard, Thomas Shireley, John Martin and Robert McClung.

Cousin Robert Glass to obtain deed for Tract of land in Frederick Co., Virginia, purchased of Arthur McConnell, which said Tract I bequeath to Thomas Glass, son of Bro. Samuel and to sister's son James Kerr both of Ireland.
Before 1783 Virginia claimed what is now Washington County, PA as part of Ohio County, Viriginia and Virginia courts had jurisdiction. So the following was all in Washington County, PA although the courts say they were Virginia.
From the "Annals of the Carnegie Museum, Minutes of Court for Ohio County" (VA):
"Administration is granted to Susannah Burn and James Car upon the Estate of Jonothan Burnn, Deceased, they Complying with the Law; whereupon the said Susannah and James prodused Frederick Lamb and John Doldridge as Sureties, and entered in to Bond and oath accordingly. Ordered that Tho. Clark, Arthor McConnel, Andrew Scott and David Reynolds, or any three of them, they being first sworn, do appraise the good Chattle & Credits of said Deceased and make report to next Court." p 21 [377]

"Minute (or order) book of the Virginia Court held for Ohio Co, VA, at Black's Cabin (now West Liberty, W.VA.) from January 6, 1777, until September 4, 1780, when it's jurisdiction over any part of PA had ceased."
Arthur McConnell..., married Elizabeth Wilson ... were the parents of the following children: Susan, Sarah, Margaret, Mary, George, Arthur, James, John and Thomas. Thomas was born on November 4, 1772, and when a young man left the paternal home in Pennsylvania and located in Mason county, Kentucky. There he married Mary Downing, who was born in Pennsylvania on October 7, 1779, and was one of a family of fourteen children. When but a girl her parents moved to Kentucky, where she grew to womanhood and was married. Soon after their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. McConnell left their home in Kentucky and moved to Brown county, Ohio, where they entered land which they later developed and improved. Thev were among the early settlers of that section, and their home was at that time located in an undeveloped and unimproved district. They were typical pioneers, who were destined to accept the hardships as they found them. They were ambitious to secure a home, and it was with a firm determination that assumed the task of making a cultivated farm from the wilderness.
They made this farm their home until the time of their deaths. The wife and mother died in 1832, after which the father married Elizabeth Downing, a sister of his first wife. Thomas McConnell was a captain in the War of 1812, and a man of strong personality and of much ability. His influence was keenly felt in the life of his home community, for he was a man of excellent judgment. He was the father of the following children: John, Susanna, Ellis D., Joseph W., Martha B., Thomas E., Rachel, Mary, Amos, Milford, Nancy and one that died in infancy. His life was a worthy one and he accomplished much in his pioneer home. Ellis D. McConnell, the father of William W., cast his first vote for Henry Clay for President.
1781 Effective tax list, Hopewell Twp, Washington Co., PA. Owned 200 acres, 2 horses, 3 cattle, 6 sheep, total value of estate $101.
On March 8, 1788 Arthur McConnell purchased 358 acres on Buffalo Creek, Washington Co., PA were surveyed by John Hoge and sold on April 8, 1788.
1790 census, Hopewell Twp, Washington Co., PA Census was completed on April 26, 1790.
2 M 16+ (Arthur, James), 2 M 0-15 (John, Joseph).
2 females (Elizabeth, Margaret). He was listed next to George McConnell.
Arthur Mcconnell died in May 1790 at Hopewell Twp, Washington Co., PA.
