DIED -- At the Depot Hotel in Galesburg, Ill., on Sabbath morning, Feb. 21st, William Alexander McCUNE, son of Rev. S. C. McCUNE, of Fairfield, Iowa, aged 24 years, 3 (or 8) months and 19 days. For two years and a half Alexander had been in the army. Since the 4th of July last he had been sick -- for two and a half months he had been off duty. His father was on his way home with him. Reaching Galesburg on Wednesday night, Feb. 17th, he was unable to proceed farther, and stopped to gain strength for the remainder of the journey. It was his last stopping place. Within a few hours' ride of home, and mother, and brothers, and sisters, he died. The reflection that he served his country faithfully in the day of her sore trial, and gave evidence of a sincere and firm reliance in the Saviour of sinners, is one that consoles and delights the otherwise stricken hearts of his parents. He died in faith, and was attended to his grave by a large concourse of sympathizing citizens, and buried with the honors of war.
