In this year, 1824, Ignatius Morris entered the W. 1/2 of the S.W. 1/4 of Sec. 12; George Steeley the S.E. fraction of ninety-three acres of the N. 1/2 of Sec. 15; David Rawles also entered more land in this year. Joseph McCune obtained the W. 1/2 of the N, E. 1/4 of Sec. 23, also the W. 1/2 of the N. W. 1/4 of Sec 23, and Abner Baum secured the E. 1/2 of the S. E. 1/4 of Sec. 23, all of T. 20 N., R. 9 W.

Per a biography of his son, George W. McCune, the family arrived in 1832 but had to flee to Chicago due to danger from Indians during the Black Hawk War. The family may have returned briefly to Indiana because William was shown in the census as born in Indiana in 1834.

Joseph purchased 160 acres in Channahon Twp, Will County, IL while living in Chicago on May 13, 1835.

In the 1870 census, Robert Thornburgh was living next door, born 1815 in Ohio. Robert Thornburgh was probably related to Joseph McCune's second wife in Fountain County, Indiana.
