Joseph Jackson, was born on the Raystown Branch about July
16, 1767 and was one of the first white children born in the
county. He was baptized at Huntingdon by the Rev. William Smith,
proprietor of the town, on one of his visits from Philadelphia. In
1791 he married Margaret Wilson, a daughter of John Wilson, who
settled on Herod's Run in what later became the Jackson Homestead
in 1776. This area is in the far northern part of Huntingdon
County and it is now called Jackson Township after our Jackson
relatives. Joseph moved there in 1792 and lived there until his
death on December 12, 1838. He is buried at McAlevy's Fort in
Jackson township. His grandson, Joseph Jackson Jr. is buried with
him at McAlevy's fort. He served as a corporal in the U.S. army
and fought in all the battles from Vera Cruz to Mexico City. He
probably died in action in the army since he was only 22 years old
when he died on August 23, 1842.
David Jackson, his oldest son, died in Jackson Township in
1839.
George Jackson, his second son, was still living in Jackson
Township in 1890.
