Per a history of the Lots Of Losantiville, James McConnell was one of the first settlers in what is now Cincinnati, Ohio. He subscribed to obtain one of the first lots available from the original owners of Cincinnati in 1789.
http://www.archive.org/stream/informationwante00inclar/informationwante00inclar_djvu.txt
In 1790 he owned property in Woodford Co., KY. In the 1790 tax list for Woodford Co., KY he was described as James McConnell, Jr. This was to distinguish him from his cousin, the son of his uncle William McConnell, who was also called James McConnell.
1810 Census, Woodford Co., KY
1 M 45+ (James), 1 M 10-15 (James H), 1 M 0-9 (unknown).
1 F 26-44 (Jane), 2 F 16-25 (Martha, Nancy), 1 F 10-15 (Jane C), 3 F 0-9 (Margaret, Mary, 1 unknown).
Per Robinson's History of Greene County, he arrived at Sugar Creek in 1811 and he was the brother of Samuel McConnell
and the grandfather of Mrs. John R. Horn. That would be Amanda Malvina McConnell, daughter of David McConnell.
Per Rev Frank Churchill, Jr., James McConnell was a member of the Massie Creek Presbyterian congregation in 1819.
He died in 1829. His will number is G-311.
1820 Census, Beaver Creek Twp, Greene Co., OH John Hamilton living next door, future father-in-law of his son Robert.
1 M 45+ (James), 1 M 16-25 (Probably James).
1 F 45+ (Jane), 2 F 16-25 (Margaret, Mary).
Per a posting by Suzanne Lamble there were 4 sons: David, William, Robert & James and 4 daughters: Martha and Nancy (both married McClellands), Margaret (who married Samuel Bigger) and Mary (married Walter Gardenhire). Based on the deed below, Suzanne appears to have counted William Lawrence as a family member and left out his wife, Jane McConnell. William Lawrence was Jane McConnell's husband. So there were five daughters and only three sons.
Per Maryln Glass: There was a deed where the heirs of James are mentioned. It was dated 8/5/1833. James' heirs are named in the deed as follows:
Robert McConnell, Robert McClelland and Martha, Joseph McClelland and Nancy, Samuel Bigger and Margaret, Walter Gardenhire and Mary, William Lawrence and Jane. James Jr. was listed in a separate deed. In addition to the adults mentioned, the children of his deceased son, David, were mentioned--James McConnell, Robert, McConnell, and Amanda Malvina McConnell who were left in the care of their legal guardian, Nancy, David's wife.
