[23902] In a study of genetics, Bryan Sykes of Oxford University came to the conclusion that Somerled has about 500,000 living decendents. Making him the second most common ancestor after Genghis Khan. Upon his death his holdings were divided among three sons-- Angus, Dougal and Donald.

From Knox Genealogy by Nathaniel Foote:
"Griswold Knox married Lieut. David Black, son of Hugh Black and Elizabeth.
The "Blandford Address" says Hugh Black was the first to arrive with his
family in the fall of 1728, and that it was at his house the proprietors
met to number the farms they designed to give to each of the first fifty
families to settle in the town. His house was on the west side of the Town
Street. It is supposed that David remained in Blandford until after his
marriage, and then settled in what was then called "Tyringham Equivalent,"
since called Otis. He built a tavern upon the main road from Westfield
to Great Barrington, which road passed through Blandford. He had a saw
mill and a grist mill. In the report of the committee to lay out the
Tyringham Equivalent lands, David black is credited with their entertain-
ment at his tavern, 13 weeks at 12 shillings per week, L7-9-6 and for
Rum L1-10-1. The report ends "Voted that Lieut. David Black and Benjamin
Brewer lay out a road through Lot #22 at their discretion." Otis is in
Berkshire Co., Mass. and was incorporated as London, Feb. 27, 1773."
"Lieutenant David Black went to the relief of the garrison at Fort William
Henry on the alarm of 1777. Under him went John Knox, his brother-in-law,
and James and John Ferguson, brothers of Isabel, wife of William Knox."

[298] The information I have shows 1879 as the birth date on a tombstone for an Alexander McConnell. I think the date was actually the death date.
