1830 Census, Brush Creek Twp, Muskingum Co., OH
1 M 30-39 (Thomas), 1 M 5-9 (John George), 1 M 0-4 (Samuel).
1 F 20-29 (Margaret), 2 F 5-9 (Mary, Nancy, Elizabeth), 2 F 0-4 (Margaret, Martha). There is one more female child 5-9 than the census indicates.
1840 census, Brush Creek Twp, Muskingum Co., OH
1 M 40-49 (Thomas), 1 M 15-19 (John George), 1 M 10-14 (Samuel), 1 M 5-9 (Thomas J), 1 M 0-4 (James).
1 F 30-39 (Margaret), 3 F 15-19 (Mary, Nancy, Elizabeth), 2 F 5-9 (Margaret, Martha), 1 F 0-4 (Rachel).
From "Swingle History, John George Swingle, His Ancestors and Descendants." "Early history records that after the formation of Brush Creek Township in
February, 1817, Thomas Buchanon McConnell served as Justice of the Peace. Also, in the early history of the churches, the first Presbyterian Church
was founded by Rev. James Culbertson in 1825, and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Buchanon McConnell were listed as members of that early congregation."
"In 1850 a book bearing the name of the author, Thomas B. McConnell, was published by the E.C. Church Publishing Co. (corner 5th and Main St.),
Zanesville, Ohio. There are several copies, Volumes I and II, still owned by family members, and titled "Horae Solitariae-- A Group of Essays
upon Some Remarkable Names, Titles and Attributes of the Holy Spirit." It is said that the books were not popular, and few copies were sold."
Thomas operated a salt factory at a farm one mile north of Stovertown, beginning about 1833.
In the 1850 census Thomas B. McConnell looks like Thomas D. McConnell and it shows he was born in Pennsylvania. The 1860 census shows the same thing. Some sources show him as born in Virginia instead of Pennsylvania.
