His marriage record shows Cynthia Gordon's name as "Sintha Jordan."
From the History of Pike County, Missouri; 1883
"Perhaps the most well know of the early settlers were those who lived within Buffalo Fort, built in 1812, in the vicinity of Buffalo and Noix Creeks on the Alexander Allison Farm, one-fourth mile west of the old Isgirg house, about two miles south of the present town of Louisiana. The fort was constructed for protection against hostile Indians during the War of 1812 and was designed to enclose a spring so as to provide water during a siege. Captain Robert B. Jordan was the commanding officer, having commanded a company of militia in his native South Carolina from 1788 until 1809."
"Among those who resided at the fort were John Jordan and his son Andrew, John Watson, Samuel Watson, David Watson, Alexander Allison, Capt. Robert B. and James Jordan, Templeton, Weaver, and Joseph and Robert McConnell. There were thirteen families who stayed at the fort, including trappers although the number eventually grew to twenty-one families. On March 30, 1813, Captain Robert B. Jordan and his son James, were returning to the fort having cleared and cut wood in the fields when they stopped at a spring for water. Here Captain Jordan was killed by an Indiana musket shot as he approached the spring, which was located in the southeast corner of the present Jordan-Buffalo Cemetery. His son James, was tomahawked as he tried to escape to the fort and both he and his father were scalped. The bodies were laid to rest on top of a hill owned by John Jordan and this was the beginning of Buffalo Cemetery, later incorporated and known as Jordan-Buffalo Cemetery."
"Following this incident, Territorial Governor William Clark sent a group of soldiers to take the families to St. Louis or other forts further south for protection. It was not until 1816 that these families returned to what would become Pike County."
"The first school (1818) in Pike County, Missouri was organized the same year on which "The Rangers" were disbanded, the Indians having gone north to Rock River. Amoung the rangers, under Zachary Taylor, then a liuetenant were.... Robert and Joseph McConnell.. the Jordans, and many others."
