Charlotte had been married prior to the marriage with Robert Melville since she was a widow when she married.
Per the 1900 census, she had had no children. The 1900 census record does not make sense since it refers to being born in Ireland, etc. The marriage record indicated that Charlotte was born in Indiana in 1848 and her father was named Thomas.

The following was from a letter written by a son of James & Hannah (Battles) McConnell of Trumbull County, OH, a grandson of William and Mary McConnell:
William McConnell, married the former Mary Magdalena Barnhizel in the mid-1700s. After the Revolutionary War, William and Mary sold land near Philadelphia, making a decent profit. However, the Continental money in which they were paid soon became worthless, leaving the family poverty stricken. They gathered their belongings and decided to travel west around 1784. The couple and their children walked from Philadelphia to Trumbull County, Ohio [they appear to have first gone to Allegheny Co., PA and later moved to Poland Twp by 1801]. Only nine of their 19 children lived to adulthood. It is not known how many children made the trip, but it was noted that the youngest two rode in baskets on horseback.
The nine sons who survived were Phillip, John B, William, Sampson, Matthew, Joseph, Alexander, David, and James S.
In 1790 William McConnell is listed in the census twice and on the same page, one record has seven male children and the other eight. We can account for seven male children who survived. Possibly one was lost in 1790.
1790 Census, Portion Taken From Washington, Allegheny, PA
1 M 16+ (William), 7 M 0-15 (Phillip, John B., William, Sampson, Matthew, Joseph, Alexander).
1 female (Mary, William's wife).
In 1800 John B. McConnell had married and started his own household. Phillip had his own land which was listed in the 1800 Moon Twp tax list. Two other sons, William and Sampson were probably working on neighboring farms.
1800 Census, Moon Twp, Allegheny Co., PA. Listed as: Wilm McConnel. Near William was his son John McConnell.
1 M 45+ (William), 1 M 16-25 (Matthew), 2 M 10-15 (Joseph, Alexander), 2 M 0-9 (David, James S.).
1 F 45+ (Mary), 1 F 0-9 (Mary).
The John McConnell in Poland Twp, Trumbull County, Ohio since 1801 and who died in 1812 left a will which clearly shows he had three sons who were Nicholas, Richard and Elias and he also had a daughter named Elizabeth, who continued to live unmarried in Poland Twp. This family is clearly unrelated to the family of William McConnell. The names are completely different and the family was from Ireland. Also, a history of Poland Twp states that his family was unrelated to the family of William McConnell. John McConnell had settled in Poland Twp by 1801, with 95 acres and he was on an 1801 tax list.
Per Trumbull County, Ohio deeds, in Book 14, page 531, William McConnell purchased 207.75 acres from Kirtland Turhand for $400.00 on September 29, 1804. The land was in Range 1, Township 1, Lot 40, which was in Poland Twp, Trumbull Co., OH. Immediately next door in Lot 41 was the family of John Hineman. This land was taxed in William's name until 1819. After that the land was taxed in Philip's name until it was sold.
150 acres of William's land was sold in November of 1826. For some reason, the sales was recorded as taking place on March 25, 1801 even though all the transactions around that transaction had dates in November of 1826. Possibly the 1801 date was when the land was originally purchased and for some legal reason, perhaps the incapacity of William, a transaction date from the date of the original purchase was used. he final 57 acres of land were sold were recorded April 29, 1829, the year William is said by descendants to have died.
The tax lists on the 203 acres were all in William McConnell's name until 1820 when the tax list transferred to the name of his son, Philip McConnell.
