William was one of the names of the children of William and Mary. If William and Mary followed naming patterns, he would have been the third oldest. He does not appear to have ever purchased land in Trumbull County, Ohio and he does not appear in any census.
In 1830 there was a Betsy McConnell in the census in Liberty Twp, Trumbull Co., OH with an unknown man 40-49. Since all the other McConnell sons can be accounted for, he may have been William. He may have been dying and wished to be near his brothers before he died. I have read that William McConnell, Jr. died in 1830. Some have said he died in Warren County, OH,, but Warren Twp in Trumbull County makes more sense. A lot of people in Trumbull County were buried in the Oakwood Cemetery in Warren Twp, Trumbull Co., OH.
A Betsy McConnell, probably this Betsy McConnell, married in 1833 to Jesse Baker and moved to Poland Twp, Trumbull Co., OH. In the 1840 census under Jesse Banker she would be the female listed, age 50-59.
1830 Census, Milton Twp, Trumbull Co., OH
1 M 40-49 (William) incapacitated?, 1 M 15-19 (John), 1 M 10-14 (unknown).
1 F 40-49 (Elizabeth), 1 F 20-29, 1 F 5-9, 1 F 0-4 (Martha).
